I recently received some great news from United We Dream on the status of Manolo the Dreamer and his family. Manolo (Tennessee DREAMer) Manolo and his parents did not have to leave the country. The fast action of UWD’s affiliate/member group, Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalistion (TIRRC), NAKASEC, America’s Voice, countless allies, and not to mention all your signatures allowed for this small reprieve. The family has not obtained deferred action yet, however, and we are still collecting signatures. Please sign the petition if you have not done so yet. Click here to sign Manolo’s petition
From United We Dream:
During the month of March, we brought you the stories of DREAMers and families who, because of our broken immigration system and lack of leadership from President Obama, were put in deportation proceedings. You signed their petitions and because of your support and help we were able to halt the deportations of these DREAMers. Here are some updates on their cases.
Mariano (Connecticut DREAMer) Mariano has received much support from Connecticut DREAMers and allies. Although he has not received a deportation order, DHS knows that Mariano is one of our community members and we are not going to allow for him to be detained and deported. Mariano still needs your signatures and support, so please pass this along to your friends and family. Click here to sign Mariano’s petition
Mario (Georgia DREAMer) Mario was released from detention two days after we brought his case to the attention of DHS. Since then, Mario was able to marry his sweetheart, Brandy and they are now pursuing a way to stay together. If you would like to send a message to Mario and Brandy congratulating them on their marriage and wishing them success, please visit their FB page and leave them a comment.
Manolo (Tennessee DREAMer) Manolo and his parents did not have to leave the country last week.
If you have already signed the petition, here are some other things you can do:
1. Send a Tweet: Ask DHS to grant deferred action to Manolo and his family. Sign the petition: http://tinyurl.com/stop-ManolosFamily-Deportation
2. Change your facebook status: Manolo and his family deserve to build a life in a country they call home. Ask DHS to grant them deferred action. http://tinyurl.com/stop-ManolosFamily-Deportation
Mario Perez (TX DREAMer) Mario’s petition reached more than 6,000 signatures in just two days! The fast action of FIEL and their partners in Texas, were able to bring Mario’s case to the attention of Congressional members who are working to stop Mario’s deporation. If you were one of the 6,00 signers, thank you!
Although we have had great success keeping these DREAMers from deportation, the sad reality is that there are many more DREAMers currently in deportation proceedings, such as Karen and Lizza (Click here to sign their petition). Although the Obama administration knows that they have the power to END our PAIN, they continue to perpetuate draconian practices that hurt our communities. We will no longer tolerate this, it is morally wrong to detain and deport DREAMers, their innocent families and parents of U.S citizen children.
President Obama launched his re-election campaign yesterday morning by sending us an email asking us for our support for his reelection. Today, we tell President Obama, “If you want our support, you must first grant deferred actions to families with US citizen children and DREAM Act Eligible youth.
If you have not sign the petition to ask president Obama to stop the deportation of DREAMers and US citizen care takers, you can do so here: Click here to sign the petition for President Obama
