On November 2, 2009 the US Congress passed House Resolution 780 which recognizes the celebration of Filipino American History Month in October. This is really a momentous occasion because President Clinton proclaimed a Filipino American History month in the early 90s but was never passed by Congress. The Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) has been promoting Filipino American History Month for more than 20 years. According to Dr. Joan May T. Cordova, through the collaborative advocacy efforts of many individuals and organizations, Filipino American History Month is officially recognized by the U.S. Congress.
