A significant event in Philippine history occurred in October of 1942. This event was the Battle of Ubujan. The Battle of Ubujan took place in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines where a guerilla unit under the command of Captain Francisco Salazar, Nome-de-guerre of Vicente Cubello, engaged a Japanese troop against overwhelming odds on October 22, 1942. A marker was erected in the district of Ubujan to commemorate the historic event of the battle where Captain Francisco Salazar and his men fought bravely the superior forces of the Japanese and shed their blood for the cause of the Filipino people.
