Pinoy nurses no longer seek US jobs

After reading this interesting article from GMA News entitled Some Pinoy nurses no longer seek US jobs, I wanted to share it here on Fil-Am Ako because Filipinos in America are the second largest Asian population and immigrant population. A large portion of Filipinos are immigrants who are nurses, most likely you are probably related to these people. According to the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), the number of nurses who indicated their desire to look for US jobs plunged by 21.38 percent in the past nine months this year. The article further examines that a total of 11,854 Filipino nurses took the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for the first time from January to September 2009, a decrease of 3,225 compared to the 15,079 that took the test in the same nine-month period in 2008. [See: 15,000 RP nurses want to go to the US yearly – labor leader] This is actually no surprise due to America’s current economic state and staggering job losses. So where are these nurses looking for jobs? Other sources in the article pointed to Saudi Arabia, Japan, and the UK to name a few.
