From Dr. Kevin L. Nadal:
You are invited to participate in a research study entitled “Experiences with Microaggressions”. The purpose of this research is to understand the experiences of subtle discrimination on specific racial groups. There will be approximately 300-400 participants in this study. If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a demographics questionnaire as well as a microaggressions questionnaire. Participation should take about 30-60 minutes and will be completed after one day. If you are a student at John Jay College, two points will be awarded towards your General Psychology 101 requirement.
The foreseeable risks of participation in this study are minimal. In order to minimize these risks, a counseling psychologist will be available for a debriefing immediately after completing the questionnaires. Also, a resource packet consisting of contact information for this study, and a referral sheet of local counselors and counseling centers will be provided. The possible benefits to you are being able to validate your experiences as a person of color. The potential benefits to society are gaining a better understanding of discrimination in order to minimize racism on institutional and individual levels in the future.
