In the spirit of October’s celebration of Filipino-American History Month, NAFCON (National Alliance of Filipino Concerns) is holding its Annual Conference and Lobby Day, October 24 and 26, 2009 in Washington, D.C., as part of our continuing struggle for justice and advancement of the rights and welfare of Filipinos in the United States.
On behalf of the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON), we would like to extend our invitation to you and the members of your organization to attend NAFCON’s Conference and Lobby Day scheduled for October 24 and 26, 2009 in Washington, D.C. As you know, NAFCON is committed to advancing our rights and welfare, celebrating our culture and history, and building unity among Filipinos living and working in the United States.
The Conference and Lobby Day will bring together member organizations and individual supporters from across the U.S. to discuss major issues impacting our community including immigration, health care, US military aid in relation to human rights violations in the Philippines, and the impacts of the current economic crisis on Filipinos and the resources needed to strengthen our community in these difficult times. During the conference, we will hear personal stories from household workers such as Filipino domestic workers and caregivers, as well as hold strategic discussions with workers, youth and students, community organizers, lawyers, and human rights advocates. All participants are invited to join legislative visits with our elected House Representatives and Senators to build cooperative relationships, develop legislative strategies, and enlist their support on issues of concern to Filipinos in the U.S.
You are also welcome to observe our Annual National Council Meeting, where we will develop our 3-Year General Program of Action (GPOA), which will include advocacy work.
We are looking forward to your and your organization’s participation in this historic and timely 3rd NAFCON National Conference! Please see attached flyer for regional host contact information and official registration for the conference.
