More Promotion for Filipino American Psychology

For those of you who visit this blog, Fil-Am Ako is a big supporter of Filipino American Psychology and its author Dr. Kevin Nadal. In an effort to bring more awareness about the topics of Filipinos in America, I am posting an article that focuses on Dr. Nadal’s quest to show the world Filipino identity and our true sense of self. One man’s quest to seek the Filipino Identity is an article that shows us more about Dr. Nadal and why he decided to write this handbook for Fil-Ams. The publication of Filipino American Psychology is a historic publication for all of us Pinoys because it is the first in-depth psychology report of its kind entirely devoted to Filipinos. The book answers questions to what many Pinoys in America like myself have been thinking throughout our lives. Some of these questions that are answered in the book include: Are we considered Asian Americans or Pacific Islanders? Why are we referred to as the “forgotten Asian Americans” and our profound influence on society both culturally and economically remain invisible? As a group of people who are constantly reminded to assimilate wherever we migrate to, I think that Filipino American Psychology accomplishes the task of reminding Filipinos not to forget who we really are and where we come from.
